Swinging for Scholarships
Monday, June 30 at the Interlachen Country Club, the National Center for Simulation‘s 20th anniversary and the Lou Frey Institute Golf Tournament will be held. The Tournament will benefit the Vince Amico & Hank Okraski STEM Scholarship Funds and the Lou Frey Institute of Politics & Government.
Guests will enjoy a fun-filled day of golf and friendly competition. A full buffet breakfast and BBQ lunch will be served. Participants may also enjoy drinks and refreshments on the golf course.
The tournament is made up of five events:
Million Dollar Hole-in-One: Ladies and gentlemen will have a chance to win $1,000,000 if they make a hole-in-one on hole #5. The other par 3 holes also include a chance to win prizes for a hole-in-one.
Closest to the Pin: Ladies will compete for this prize on hole #7, and gentlemen will shoot for closest to the pin on hole #17
Longest Drive: Longest drive for ladies will be on hole #6, and gentlemen will be measured on hole #10.
Beat the Pro: On hole #11, guests can take a shot at beating one of Interlachen’s Pros.
The Infamous NCS Skirt Hole: The Skirt hole enables teams to move up to a forward set of tees to significantly shorten a par 5 making it reachable in two.
Mulligan tickets can be purchased and used (up to 2 per person) during the tournament or as a raffle ticket for door prizes during the charity lunch.

National Center for Simulation Scholarships:
Vince Amico/ Hank Okraski Scholarships
The NCS Scholarship fund benefits students at the University of Central Florida (UCF) and Daytona State College (DSC) that are actively pursuing an education in a major that is related to simulation and training (e.g. computer science, engineering or mathematics) or simulation technology. The Monies raised through the fundraiser golf tournament enable NCS to award multiple scholarships each semester to UCF and DSC students who meet the established criteria and have demonstrated interest in modeling and simulation based on their coursework, employment, community involvement, etc. The Vince Amico Scholarship ($2,500) is awarded in the fall and spring semesters to an incoming qualified UCF freshman or an eligible full-time Master’s or Doctoral candidate majoring in Modeling and Simulation. NCS also awards the Hank Okraski scholarship ($1,000) in the fall and spring semesters to a new or continuing student enrolled in the DSC Simulation and Robotics Technology Degree Program.
Lou Frey Institute of Politics & Government at UCF
The mission of the Lou Frey Institute (LFI) of Politics and Government is to promote the development of enlightened, responsible, and actively engaged citizens. LFI led the passage of the Sandra Day O’Connor Civics Education Act in 2010. The Act is making a real contribution to restoring the civic mission in Florida’s schools. LFI has been working hard with districts to provide curriculum materials (particularly for elementary and middle school), to help prepare teachers, and to provide practice exam questions for students. We have provided face-to-face workshops, seminars, online programs, and materials that have supported thousands of teachers from one end of the state to the other. Funds from this tournament will help us train even more teachers and give them the tools to help restore the civic mission of Florida’s schools.
